Repairs on overpass at Interstate 59/U.S. 49 interchange completed
SUMMARY: Engine 11, a retired fire truck, has been repurposed as a PE truck by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). This move comes after a tractor-trailer hit the I-59 overpass, causing severe damage. MDOT responded by closing the southbound lane of I-59 and implementing multiple detours and barriers for drivers. MDOT evaluated the situation, secured an emergency contract, and began working to fix the damages in July. As part of the repairs, Engine 11 was used to replace the damaged concrete on the vertical section of the overpass.
