Wanted Columbia suspect arrested after manhunt
SUMMARY: A manhunt through two Pine Belt counties ended after a K-9 unit caught a wanted suspect. The chase started around 10-15 in the morning in Columbia. Police officers tried to pull over Calvin Lewis on Church Street near West Avenue, but he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase along Highway 98 toward Lamar County. Lewis eventually crashed the vehicle and ran into the woods. He was wanted for several felony charges in Columbia, including elderly abuse and burglary. He was booked into jail in the afternoon around 3:40.
The suspect was caught in a wooded area around Lake Serene by the Lamar County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit.

Report: Driver had Kratom chemical in system at time of fatal Rankin County crash
SUMMARY: Ranken County authorities have reported that a fatal crash earlier this year involved a driver who had a chemical found in cram in their system. The crash occurred on January 19th at Barnett Ben Circle in Old Fannon Road, resulting in the driver's death. The driver's blood specimen was submitted for toxicology analysis, leading to the county's decision to ban the use, sale, and possession of cram. First responders attempted to save the driver's life, but were unsuccessful. Sheriff Brian B emphasized the dangers of cram and the need for stricter regulations surrounding its use.
