New parking meters go up in downtown Jackson
SUMMARY: The city of Jackson is starting to issue tickets for parking violations in downtown. A two-week grace period is in place before enforcement begins. Drivers must use kiosks to enter their license plate and pay with a credit card or feed the meter. City leaders believe this change is necessary to generate revenue and make improvements. Though some are initially upset, others see the benefits of the new system. The parking rate will be one dollar per hour initially. Enforcement will be a joint effort between the city and SP Plus. The goal is to make downtown parking more efficient and generate funds for city improvements.
