Senate committee makes changes to Medicaid bill
SUMMARY: The Senate made significant changes to a Medicaid expansion measure approved by the House, reducing the number of eligible individuals and increasing work requirements. The Governor, Tate Reeves, expressed opposition to the Senate's version, which he believes is not for the working poor but for able-bodied adults who choose not to work. State hospitals were hoping for more coverage to help offset healthcare costs threatening rural hospitals. The bill now moves to the full Senate, with expected challenges in reaching a compromise with the House in a conference committee. The debate over Medicaid expansion in Mississippi continues to be contentious.
