Speaker White discusses education, healthcare reforms
SUMMARY: Speaker Jason White stated that after passing a new public education funding formula in 2024, the Mississippi House of Representatives is focusing on school choice and vouchers. The aim is to allow public school students to attend schools in other districts without restrictions from their home districts, particularly in cases where parents work in neighboring areas. White insists this should be feasible in the 21st century without harming public school funding. Additionally, healthcare reform will be addressed in 2025, including reviewing certificate of need laws and potentially expanding Medicaid. White emphasized the need to empower nurse practitioners in underserved areas to help address the state's doctor shortage.
