Singing River Health System closes labor and delivery unit at Gulfport location

Health System's hospital in will be closing its labor and delivery unit, as well as additional obstetric services in less than a month.

Officials with the hospital announced the closure on Thursday, stating that the cause was due to staffing shortages. Employees at the facility were given a 30-day notice with the option of transferring to other locations managed by Singing .

At this time, obstetric care is still being provided to at the system's additional locations in and .

Singing River is currently in the of accepting bids for the sale of the system, with the official deadline for applications to be submitted set for March 10. A little over a month later, a bid will be selected by county supervisors, with the negotiation process to purchase SRHS set to begin by April 14.

Man arrested in Rankin County for trafficking 22 pounds of fentanyl

SUMMARY: A man was in Rankin County, Mississippi after deputies discovered 22 pounds of fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 20. The driver, Arturo Gonsen-Miranda, was charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance. The arrest was made after the deputies developed probable cause that the driver may be involved in drug trafficking. A K-9 partner named “Voodoo” alerted on the vehicle, leading to the discovery of two false compartments where the fentanyl was found. Gonsen-Miranda was taken to the Rankin County Jail, and no bond has been set for him at this time.
