Second Citizen’s Police Academy being hosted

After the success of the first Citizens Academy, the Police Department has decided to host another one.

The Citizen’s Police Academy will give 25 residents — 21 and older — an inside look at how the department serves the community.

The academy begins October 12 and will be held on Wednesday evenings once a week for two hours.

Members of Biloxi PD will teach classes on topics ranging from investigations to special teams to de-escalation training.

This time, the department decided to add a course on firearm safety.

The Blood Center holds blood drive to help increase supply

The Blood Center hosted a in their mobile center in front of the Courthouse as the Coast continues to face a critical shortage.

Before the blood drive even began, people were lined up willing to give. The Blood Center’s goal for the day was to collect 15 to 20 pints of blood. Before 2 p.m. it already surpassed its goal.

As a way to say thank you, donors had the option to choose from a mystery envelope containing gift cards and food vouchers or a t-shirt and prize of the month, Halloween socks.

House fire in Gulfport leaves one injured- WXXV 25

This afternoon a house fire in left one woman injured and the structure burned.

According to Fire Chief Pat Sullivan, he received a call around 2:30 p.m. about a structure fire on Robin Oaks Drive.

When the team arrived to the scene, they found a house burning along with a burn victim who was able to escape.

Mississippi Power employee rescues cat from under car

A employee went to help with what he thought was a broken-down car only to end up on a rescue mission for one frightened furry friend.

Mississippi Power Engineer Nate Burse says he was on his way to an assignment when he saw what he believed to be a woman next to her broken down car. Nate decided to help the woman and when he reached her, he was told that a kitten had made its way into one of the wheel wells of the car.
