Secretary of State Michael Watson gives out the John Lewis Youth Leadership Award once a year to recognize a gifted, civic-minded young individual.

For the first time, the award was given to two individuals and one recipient was ’s very own Bobby Hudson.

Hudson gives his all to contribute to his community in various ways.

Captain Matt Haley has officially kicked off his campaign for sheriff.

Dozens of people showed up to the White Barn in Saucier to show their support for Matt Haley, who is running for sheriff.

Woman shot in the head working an Uber shift last week in Gulfport

Linda Buford was shot working her Uber shift last Friday by a passenger in near Tennessee Street and Chicago Avenue.

Seventeen-year-old Trinyell Coats Jr. admitted to shooting Buford and has been charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Jail with a bond set at $250,000.

Mississippi Oyster Shell Recycling program aims to collect from restaurants in spring

The Nature Conservancy of Mississippi spoke with the Board of Supervisors about the plan to start an oyster shell recycling program on the Coast.

Oyster shell recycling programs exist in at least 14 other states. Oyster shells are typically discarded by restaurants and end up in landfills, but the program will instead collect discarded shells and use them to replenish the oyster beds for reproduction.

Inmate sues Harrison County, sheriff after alleged assault, rape at jail

A inmate has sued Harrison County and Sheriff Troy Peterson and unnamed defendants, claiming he was assaulted and raped while in the county jail.

Biloxi man charged with carjacking, aggravated assault in D’Iberville

A man was arrested in D’Iberville this morning, charged with carjacking and aggravated assault stemming from separate incidents that occurred overnight.

Chief Shannon Nobles said 48-year-old James Bryant Mills was charged with carjacking and two counts of aggravated assault. He was taken to the jail. His bond was set at $150,000. Nobles also noted that Mills was out on bond on an unrelated narcotics charge when he was arrested.
