Three have died at Hattiesburg poultry plant since 2020
SUMMARY: A former OSHA agent is expressing concerns about safety in the poultry industry after a 16-year-old boy was killed while working at a plant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The company claims they were unaware of the boy's age and blame a staffing company for not verifying it. This is the third death at the plant since 2020, with four other people being seriously injured in separate incidents. The former OSHA official claims that the poultry industry often hires underage immigrants who may not know their rights. Federal labor laws prohibit anyone under 18 from operating meat processing equipment. OSHA is investigating the incident.
