Owners of White Pillars opening boutique hotel, restaurant downtown Gulfport
SUMMARY: Downtown Gulfport will soon see its own boutique hotel and speak-easy-like bar and restaurant called Harper Hotel. The owners of White Pillars in Biloxi are adding another restaurant to their portfolio, featuring a 16-room boutique hotel and a 40-seat luscious restaurant with a European-inspired menu. Co-owner Tresse Sumrall hopes to bring a different vibe to the establishment, with a focus on tiki-themed drinks and handmade pasta and steaks. Intervest Corporations developers pushing back to build affordable housing in Pascagoula
SUMMARY: Intervest Corporation developers are aiming to expand affordable housing for seniors in Pascagoula by renovating the old science building of the former high school. Despite initial approval from the Planning Commission, the project was not approved by the mayor, who expressed concerns about the location of low-income housing in the downtown area. The developers are seeking an appeal process and hope to bring the project back to the city council for a reconsideration. If approved, they plan to build 23 housing units for elderly residents. The developers believe the project is needed to provide affordable housing for seniors in the community.
Years after a portion of the old Pascagoula High School was converted into affordable housing for seniors, the developer is now hoping to make an expansion.
