Eudora Welty Library gets major grant
SUMMARY: The Eudora Welty Library in Jackson, Mississippi, which has been closed for months, will soon be reopened in a new downtown location thanks to a $3.7 million grant announced by the Jackson-Hinds Library System. The funding was included in a spending bill signed by President Joe Biden. The original library building, which had been open for 38 years, will be torn down due to long-term maintenance issues. The investment is seen as a positive step to save libraries in the area, providing essential services like summer reading programs and free computer access to those in need. Residents are hopeful that the money will be used effectively to revitalize the library and provide important resources to the community.
