Chad Kelly goes from ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ to CFL’s Most Outstanding Player
SUMMARY: Chad Kelly, once the final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, has risen to CFL stardom as the Toronto Argonauts' starting quarterback. After periods with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts, and facing criticism, Kelly moved to the CFL where he recently earned the 2023 George Reed Most Outstanding Player award. With a season performance that included 4,123 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns, he led the Argonauts to a 16-2 record and a third consecutive Eastern Final. Following a championship comeback victory last season, he secured a record $1.865 million deal with the team.

SUMMARY: Former Long Beach youth pastor John Jones was arrested for two charges of sexual battery and touching a child for lustful purposes. The Harrison County Sheriff's Office apprehended him following a grand jury indictment. The investigation began in November 2022, and the offense date was reported as May 1, 2021. Jones and the victim met in the youth program at First Baptist Church in Long Beach. He left his position after the investigation started. Authorities suspect more victims and request public help. Jones was jailed with a $250,000 bond and has a court date on June 24, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.

SUMMARY: Bond was denied for Orlando May, 18, Allen Marcus Gardner, 17, and Samir Green, 16, accused of the shooting death of Southern Miss football player MJ Daniels. They face charges including capital murder and armed carjacking. The shooting occurred at the Ivy Row apartment complex when the trio allegedly attempted to break into Daniels' vehicle. Hattiesburg police discovered Daniels dead with gunshot wounds. Daniels, 21, joined Southern Miss in 2023 after transferring from Ole Miss and was anticipated to be a key player. Funeral arrangements for Daniels are set for Saturday at George County High School.
