SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) is administering $5.8 million in from the USDA to enhance the 's food supply chain. These Resilient Food (RFSI) Program grants expansion and modernization in processing, aggregation, distribution, and infrastructure. Eligible entities include agricultural producers and processors, schools, universities, hospitals, nonprofits, for-profits, and bodies. Exclusions apply to certain products like tobacco and animal feed. Infrastructure Grants range from $100,000 to $3,000,000, requiring a 50% match; a reduced 25% match for underserved and disadvantaged groups. Equipment Grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 with no match necessary. Applications are due by March 15 at 5 p.m. CT.

Corinth doctor arrested for fatal high-speed car crash

SUMMARY: Dr. Michael Hawley, a 44-year-old doctor from Corinth, Alcorn County, has been for a high-speed fatal car crash that claimed the of 81-year-old William Pady. The incident occurred on April 25, with Hawley allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour—60 mph over the speed limit—on Highway 72 before colliding with Pady's SUV. Hawley, an internal medicine specialist at Magnolia Regional Community Care Clinic, has been charged with manslaughter culpable negligence. It's currently unknown if he has been dismissed from his position, and Magnolia Regional Community Care Clinic has not provided comments on the matter.

Mississippi governor signs bill banning machine gun conversion devices

SUMMARY: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill into to criminalize the manufacture, sale, and possession of machine gun conversion devices, such as “Glock switches.” These devices convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic ones. House Bill 903, authored by Rep. Kevin Felsher, carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $3,000 fine for violations. Felsher highlighted the need for -level action, as current laws only address federal offenses. The law was celebrated by Moms Demand Action for enhancing public safety. Mississippi is the 16th state to enact such legislation.
