Ridgeland mother faces up to life in prison for holding child at gunpoint
SUMMARY: Akilah Watson, a 36-year-old former resident of Ridgeland, faces a potential life sentence for the felony child abuse of her two teenagers. The abuse included beatings with objects like an extension cord, bat, and walking stick, as well as an incident where she allegedly pistol-whipped her daughter and held her at gunpoint. Watson's children, a 16-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son, have since been placed with their grandmother after temporary foster care. Their testimony played a crucial role in the trial, emphasized by District Attorney Bubba Bramlett. Watson's sentencing is scheduled for May 13th, with a minimum of five years imprisonment.
