Mississippi State researchers aid in documented sighting of Great White off Alabama coast
SUMMARY: Researchers from Mississippi State University assisted in the significant sighting of a juvenile female Great White shark, named “Miss Pawla,” off the Alabama coast. The eight-foot-long shark was observed near an artificial reef zone in approximately 150 feet of water. Miss Pawla, about 15 years old, was first seen in mid-April. Great Whites are not commonly found in the Gulf of Mexico, but recent sightings have sparked discussions among experts about the species possibly adapting to the area. This event marks the first documented Great White sighting at that specific reef by scientists. Research was funded by the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium and Alabama's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

New leadership coming to Mississippi Republican Party
SUMMARY: Mississippi GOP Chairman Frank Bordeaux is stepping down after a successful four-year term in which the party gained significant ground in local, state, and federal offices. He has endorsed former U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst as his successor to maintain the momentum and continue the party's success. Hurst, who has the support of Governor Tate Reeves, plans to further the state's conservative principles and grow the party. Bordeaux believes Hurst is well-equipped to take over and help the party reach new heights. Former chairman Lucien Smith expects Hurst to maintain the GOP's strong position in Mississippi.
