Democratic Party appeals decision to reinstate Hickingbottom as governor candidate
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Democratic Party is appealing a Hinds County Circuit Court judge's decision to reinstate gubernatorial candidate Bob Hickingbottom on the ballot. Hickingbottom, who is challenging party frontrunner Brandon Presley in the primaries, was removed by party officials in February over a failure to submit a statement of economic interest (SOEI) to the Mississippi Ethics Commission. The Mississippi Supreme Court has issued an order for both sides to file necessary paperwork to expedite the appeal process, as absentee voting for the August 8 primary elections is fast approaching.

Here’s how Mississippi representatives voted on McCarthy removal
SUMMARY: The U.S. House of Representatives removed Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his leadership role, with three out of four Mississippi representatives voting against the decision. Republican Congressmen Michael Guest, Trent Kelly, and Mike Ezell supported McCarthy, while Congressman Bennie Thompson joined Democrats in removing him. The vote was sparked by Rep. Michael Guest, who accused McCarthy of breaching an agreement made in January. This is the first time a speaker has been ousted through a resolution, and it is unclear when lawmakers will vote on a new speaker. Rep. Patrick McHenry will serve as interim speaker.
