Oxford police host NightCap giveaway to help prevent drink spiking
SUMMARY: The Oxford Police Department in Mississippi is taking measures to prevent drink spiking. They are giving away protective covers for open drinks that people can wear on their wrists and slip over their glasses. They have also created drink safe coasters that test for substances commonly used in drink spiking, and a service called ride-safe that helps people get back to campus safely. In addition, they encourage people who feel unsafe to ask for an “angel shot” at the bar, which alerts the bartender that the person needs help. The police department has set up a Safe Site tent in case anyone feels unsafe or has questions.

Despite political boundaries, everyone worked together to get the job done efficiently. The county saw some damage near the new Sportsplex, but the city experienced the hardest hit areas. Collaboration between different departments expedited the clean-up process and aided in overall recovery efforts.
