Jackson to open cooling centers Thursday

Court upholds conviction of Mississippi woman sentenced after victim dies in coma
SUMMARY: Brittany Carter's conviction for second-degree murder in connection to the death of Chornell Mayfield was upheld by the Mississippi Court of Appeals. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, and an additional five-year term for possession of a stolen firearm.
