Man in Carroll County allegedly tries to scam residents
SUMMARY: Law enforcement in Mississippi is cautioning homeowners regarding home repair scams. Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker highlighted a case involving Peewee Stumpie Lee from Brandon, who attempted to deceive residents with unsolicited repair offers. Lee, who was also wanted in Georgia and had a weapon in his vehicle, often proposed cheap jobs using leftover materials, only to demand more money later. The Mississippi State Board of Contractors warns that repairs over $10,000 require a licensed contractor. Homeowners are advised to be wary of unsolicited repair offers, check references, avoid upfront payments, and request written quotes and proof of insurance.
