Mississippi Power earns National award for Moss Point tornado response
SUMMARY: Local utility company Moss Point, Mississippi Power, has received national recognition for their restoration efforts after severe weather hit last summer. The company's response to a tornado that tore through Moss Point and their work in restoring power in the aftermath has been awarded by the Edison Electric Institute Emergency Response Award. Crews from all over the state came to help and were able to restore power within 36 hours to those who could receive electricity. The company plans to celebrate their victory, knowing that more storms could be on the way.
The Edison Electric Institute awarded Mississippi Power for its response during a seven-day period of severe weather in 2023.

Congratulations to many of our Gulf Coast track and field stars who brought home State Championship
SUMMARY: Several high school athletes from the Mississippi Gulf Coast traveled to Pearl High School for the track state championships for classes 7A through 5A. Aon Edy from Diab Ville took home gold in discus and shotput, while another athlete, Josiah Rayford, placed first in the 300-meter hurdles. Ocean Springs Junior Carmella Culture and Senior Grady Westbrook also won in their respective events. George County's New Snite became a back-to-back state champion in long jump and a first-time champion in high jump. Laken Moore from the Maroon team and Sean Fairley from Christian Collegiate Academy also won in their events. Congratulations to all the athletes for their achievements.
