Lee County supervisors say clearing icy roads was challenging
SUMMARY: Barry Parker, a new Lee County supervisor, faced his first countywide crisis of clearing ice off roads due to extreme cold temperatures. The ice was so slick that using a motor grader to remove it was ineffective, so crews prioritized salting major roads, hills, and curves. Moving forward, the county plans to identify key roads in each district that need work and improve the road clearing process. Engineers noted that it takes more salt to make an impact on cold roads. County officials emphasized the need for road crews to stay safe while doing their jobs effectively.

Beth Ann White to be sentenced in DUI crash that killed mother, son
SUMMARY: Beth Ann White, 52, was found guilty of causing a crash that killed a mother and her six-month-old son, resulting in life-threatening injuries to the surviving children. She was convicted of four counts of aggravated DUI and faces up to 25 years in prison per count. Her attorney has filed a motion asking the court to disregard the jury's verdict, arguing that there was insufficient evidence, bias, and an impossibility in determining White's blood alcohol content at the time of the crash. White's sentencing is scheduled for May 15, where the court will make a decision based on the jury's verdict.
