New Houlka is increasing its water and sewer rates
SUMMARY: The town of New Hoka has approved an increase in water and sewer rates, affecting water customers in the area. The rates will go up by $4, from $21 to $25 for the first 2,000 gallons, appearing on the July 2024 water bill. The decision was made due to rising operating costs caused by an increase in the price of supplies and materials. This is the first rate hike in 5 years and is meant to help the town maintain its current budget. Residents are advised to be aware of this change in their water bills.
Both water and sewer will increase by four dollars.

Rankin County sheriff Immunity
SUMMARY: On Saturday night, the weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with numerous evening showers. Meanwhile, Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey is linked to a civil rights lawsuit involving two men, Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker, who were abused by a group of deputies known as “the Goon Squad.” A federal judge denied Bailey's request to dismiss himself from the $400 million lawsuit, emphasizing that the sheriff could still be held accountable for failing to supervise the deputies. The six individuals involved in the assault pleaded guilty to various charges and received prison sentences.
Sheriff Brian Bailey will go to court over allegations of his involvement with the “goon squad”
