Groups pressure lawmakers to expand Medicaid
SUMMARY: The House and Senate in Mississippi are still far apart on expanding Medicaid, prompting rallies to encourage negotiations. Health care groups advocate for expansion to help working poor residents. A conference committee has been appointed but has not yet met to discuss a compromise. The Senate's version of expansion covers fewer people than the House's version and requires proof of work. Democrats fear that the expansion may fail this session. Calls for compromise from economic and industry groups are increasing pressure for a solution. The session is set to end soon, adding urgency to the need for a decision on Medicaid expansion.
