Pascagoula residents unhappy with Jackson County Memorial Park Cemetery conditions
SUMMARY: Residents in Gula are upset about the poor conditions of the historic Jackson County Memorial Park Cemetery. Many headstones are damaged, there is a lack of upkeep, and graves are in bad shape. Richard Lucas, who has family buried there, is part of a Community Action Group advocating for better maintenance. They were successful in passing a law allowing municipalities to request funds for cemetery upkeep. Despite some progress, there is still a long way to go. The absentee owner living in McGee is blamed for the poor conditions. Residents want the cemetery to be a respectful final resting place for their loved ones.
