Late Lowndes County volunteer firefighter is honored in Maryland
SUMMARY: The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is holding its 43rd annual Memorial Weekend in Maryland to honor fallen firefighters from across the country. One of those being honored is Wayne Doyle, a volunteer firefighter from Lowndes County who served for nearly 40 years before passing away in 2022. The weekend includes a Candlelight service on Saturday night and a memorial service on Sunday morning, where over 200 firefighters from the United States will be honored. This event serves as a way to commemorate and pay tribute to firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Three teens denied bond in shooting death of USM football player
SUMMARY: Three teenagers, Orlando May, Allen Gardner, and Samir Green, have been charged with capital murder and attempted armed carjacking in connection with the death of Marcus “MJ” Daniels, Jr., a Southern Miss football player. The suspects, aged 16 to 18, were denied bond on the murder charges but received a $100,000 bond for the carjacking charges. Daniels, who previously played for the Ole Miss football team, was found deceased inside a vehicle at Ivy Row Apartments on June 11. Visitation and funeral services are scheduled for June 22 at George County High School Gymnasium. Authorities are soliciting additional information via Hattiesburg police or Crime Stoppers.

Man shot by Alcorn County sheriff’s deputy dies at hospital
SUMMARY: Jason Sekerak, 39, died at Region One in Memphis after being shot by an Alcorn County sheriff's deputy. The incident occurred when Sekerak was reportedly severely beating his mother, who called the police. Despite the deputy's verbal commands and use of a Taser, Sekerak continued to assault his mother, leading the deputy to shoot him in the back of the neck. Cummins, girlfriend testify in Jackson double homicide trial
SUMMARY: The trial of Jordan Cummins, accused of killing two people near Hal's St. Paddy's Parade in March 2023, saw key testimonies on June 17. Cummins and his girlfriend, Jenny Lukens, both testified, with Lukens denying being assaulted by Cummins.
