County files suit to block Jackson from hiring ambulance provider
SUMMARY: A judge in Mississippi will determine whether to temporarily block the city of Jackson from providing ambulance services to residents. Hinds County filed suit against the city, arguing that hiring a separate ambulance service provider would put the county in breach of its current contract with American Medical Response (AMR). The suit claims that the city's actions could disrupt EMS provision, increase costs, and render the current agreement financially unfeasible. While the city argues that its current service is understaffed and inefficient, the county contends that the city agreed not to operate an ambulance service in its interlocal agreement with the county. The hearing is set for September 26.
