Beth Ann White sentenced to 110 years for DUI that killed 2
SUMMARY: A woman named Bethann White received one of the longest sentences ever handed down in Hinds County for causing a deadly drunk driving collision that killed a mother and child and severely injured two other daughters. The judge cited White's lack of remorse as a factor in his decision. White's defense attorney immediately filed an appeal, arguing that the state failed to prove her blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the crash. White will have to serve at least 50% of her 110-year sentence before she is eligible for parole, and it is unlikely she will live long enough to be released from prison.

Governor signs appropriations bill
SUMMARY: Thalia Mara Hall, the showcase stage for international ballet performances in the capital city, received 1 million dollars in state appropriations. The funding will be used for heating and cooling improvements, as well as other cosmetic enhancements to improve visitor and performance experiences. Other projects in the capital city, such as improvements to Parkway at Jackson State and major thoroughfares around the university, Union Station, Hinds County Courthouse, and Hinds County Sheriff's Office, also received funding from the state. Despite limited resources, state lawmakers allocated funds for various infrastructure improvements in different areas, benefitting cities like Brandon that cannot afford critical projects on their own.
