Anthony Fox will be released from prison, attorney says
SUMMARY: Former Jackson police officer Anthony Fox has had his culpable negligence manslaughter conviction for the 2019 death of George Robinson reversed by the Mississippi State Court of Appeals. Attorney Merrida Coxwell stated that Fox is happy with the decision. The ruling came after State Attorney General Lynn Fitch asked the appeals court to throw out Fox's conviction, leading to disappointment from Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens. Robinson died after being pulled from a car and assaulted by Officer Fox and two other officers. The DA's office is reviewing the decision to evaluate the appropriate path forward. Coxwell also stated that testimony from the state's own witnesses contradicted the evidence.
