MGCCC graduates receive diploma during 2024 Spring Commencement
SUMMARY: Today, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is honoring its graduates at the 2024 spring commencement ceremony at the coast coliseum. Students from Harrison Jackson and Perkinston campuses are walking the stage to receive their degrees and certifications. Brandon Elliott of Elliott Homes is the guest speaker at the event, with over 1,200 students participating. The graduates have worked hard and dedicated themselves to their educational goals, with Dr. Graham handing out the degrees. One student is excited to receive their associate's degree while still in high school, in order to pursue a four-year college and a master's degree in a shorter time frame. Congratulations to all the 2024 graduating classes on their achievements.

Biloxi veteran shares strategy to dealing with PTSD
SUMMARY: At WX, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we're spotlighting stories of local community members facing mental health challenges. Today, John Kemp, a community member and military veteran, shares his battle with PTSD triggered by a 2017 bus-train collision. Despite his heroic actions during the accident, John struggled with sleep and repressed memories from his army service in Germany. The VA provided him with therapy and support, including prolonged exposure treatment. John's journey underscores the importance of recognizing sleep issues, seeking help, and the role of support systems in managing mental health. John's openness aims to break the stigma around mental health.
Biloxi's John Kemp is a community leader, military veteran, husband, and father. He's also had some mental health challenges to overcome.
