Mississippi man killed by police SUV receives funeral months after first burial in paupers’ cemetery
SUMMARY: Dexter Wade, who died at 37 when struck by a Jackson Police SUV driven by an off-duty officer, was given a dignified burial after being incorrectly interred in a pauper's grave without his family's knowledge. The incident occurred on March 5, and his mother, Bettersten Wade, wasn't informed of his death until months later, despite her filing a missing person report. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is advocating for a Justice Department investigation, highlighting a breakdown in communication by local authorities. Over 200 people, including civil rights figures, attended Wade's funeral on the eve of what would have been his 38th birthday.

SUMMARY: Lowndes County Road Department workers teamed up with Columbus Public Works crews to clean up debris after a wind event. 28 county workers used 11 dump trucks to remove more than 100 loads of debris in two days. They cleared areas for utility crews to restore services and facilitated the replacement of streetlights and other repairs. Despite political boundaries, everyone worked together to get the job done efficiently. The county saw some damage near the new Sportsplex, but the city experienced the hardest hit areas. Collaboration between different departments expedited the clean-up process and aided in overall recovery efforts.
