70 Mississippi counties under burn ban as extreme drought conditions continue
SUMMARY: Mississippi is facing severe drought effects, leading to a burn ban in all but 12 counties. Following months of dryness, the Mississippi River Basin's low water levels have increased wildfire risks, especially in pine forests and southern rough. The Mississippi Forestry Commission warns that 90% of wildfires are human-caused, urging caution to prevent fires. Factors like dry cold fronts, high pressure systems, and sea breezes heighten fire dangers. Individuals starting fires may face accountability or fines. The Commission contained a significant fire in Attala County and emphasized the widespread impact and risk of these drought conditions.
