With the high school football season officially kicking off this week, it only makes sense that our first WXXV Student Athlete of the Week goes to a gridiron star, even if you've never heard his name, until now.

MGCCC celebrates success at 2024 State SkillsUSA Competitions
SUMMARY: Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students excelled at the 2024 State SkillsUSA Competitions, with winners in both secondary and postsecondary categories. In the secondary division, students from George County High School's Emergency Medical Technology program dominated, with Bishop Ladnier and Rayne Bexley winning gold in EMT and Amy Smith placing third in CPR. In the postsecondary category, MGCCC students Emmanuel Reyes, Bruce Bradley, Liliane Bullock, and Piper Haag also showcased their skills, with Haag winning gold in Baking and Pastry. The winners will advance to the National SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta. Congratulations to all the winners and gratitude to their instructors and supporters.

Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Gulfport baseball’s very own Ethan Surowiec!
SUMMARY: Gulfport standout Ethan Surowiec is known for his clutch moments on the baseball field, including watching his future team win the College Baseball World Series on his birthday. He attributes his World Champion mindset to UFC fighter Conor McGregor, and looks up to former MLB player Jonathan Holder. Despite big dreams of making it to the big leagues, Surowiec remains focused on his senior season with his fellow seniors. The Gulfport Admirals are determined to win the State Championship this year, starting with the playoffs against Oak Grove Warriors.
