SUMMARY: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Schaefer Center for Crisis Intervention in Pine Belt is working to break the stigma by encouraging everyone to get involved. They provide counseling and resources for victims of sexual assault, emphasizing the importance of being an active bystander to prevent or stop sex-related crimes. Jackson Police host youth basketball league
SUMMARY: Children in Jackson are being taught discipline and teamwork through the Police Athletic League (PALS) program, which involves basketball and classroom lessons. The goal is to keep kids out of trouble by keeping them busy and active. Solomon Vance, a 13-year-old participant, credits the program for helping kids stay out of trouble and building relationships with law enforcement. The program aims to make a direct impact on youth by providing a positive outlet and support system outside of their households. As youth crime rates increase, programs like PALS help steer kids in the right direction and provide a sense of community and support.
