Community Tackles Crime
SUMMARY: The Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods held a meeting to discuss how to address crime in the city of Jackson. Various officials, including law enforcement, attended the meeting to come up with ideas and create a comprehensive legislative agenda for 2024 to reduce crime. Topics such as schooling, family life, and blight were discussed as possible factors contributing to crime. Representatives also suggested implementing programs to help students transition to middle school and provide resources for parents. Police Chief Joseph Wade highlighted the issue of the open carry law in the state and its impact on crime in Jackson. The meeting concluded with plans for two more meetings.

Rain chances will increase on Friday but the weekend should mostly stay dry with a small chance of showers. Humidity will increase over the weekend and temperatures will rise into the 90s next week. McKnight unveiled as Trojans' new Head Softball Coach
SUMMARY: Northeast Lauderdale announced Beverly McNight as the new head softball coach, bringing seven years of coaching experience from West Lauderdale. McNight helped West Lauderdale win a state championship in 2023 and is eager to continue the success at Northeast. She praised the progress made by the team in recent years and is excited to implement what she's learned from previous coaches. McNight will complete the current season with West Lauderdale before transitioning to Northeast in the summer. She expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead the Lady Trojan softball program to new heights.
