Moss Point allocates $2M to cover cleanup costs from June tornado

SUMMARY: The city of Moss Point in Mississippi has set aside $2 million to cover recovery costs from a tornado that hit in mid-June. The funds will be used for debris pickup and cleaning services. The city will temporarily cover the costs until they receive confirmation from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) whether the damages meet the threshold for a federal declaration. So far, 18 percent of debris has been collected, and the FEMA will be visiting Moss Point to assess the damages. MEMA is working towards receiving emergency declaration status for the entire state.

Rolling Fork being reimbursed over $1.3 million by feds after devastating EF-4 tornado

SUMMARY: Rolling Fork has received over $1.3 million from FEMA for debris cleanup after March 2023 tornadoes. Work from May 26 to Sept. 22, 2023, included removing 192,742 cubic yards of construction, 7,841 cubic yards of vegetative, and 4,869 cubic yards of concrete debris. The EF-4 tornado and severe storms devastated Rolling Fork, affecting a third of its 2,000 residents by destroying homes and businesses, and accounting for most of the 21 fatalities in Mississippi.
