More schools across Mississippi continue to adopt modified calendars

SUMMARY: School districts in Mississippi are adopting a modified school calendar that replaces the traditional long summer break with more frequent breaks throughout the year. These breaks, known as intersessions, additional opportunities for academic enrichment and intervention for struggling . The Starkville Oktibbeha County Consolidated School District was one of the first districts to adopt this calendar. Teachers and students have just returned from their two- fall break, and the district is seeing improved attendance and teacher morale. According to the Department of Education, 29 school districts have adopted modified calendars for the 2023-2024 school year.
