Monroe County extends burn ban
SUMMARY: now. Monroe County in Mississippi has extended its countywide burn ban until December 4th. Currently, all of south Mississippi and much of north Mississippi are under a burn ban. The Natchez Trace Parkway shows extremely dry trees and ground, highlighting the desperate need for rainfall.
The county wide ban was extended until Dec. 4th.

Jackson Police host youth basketball league

Jackson man hears heartbeat live in donor recipient of late legal ward
SUMMARY: The festival celebrated its thirty-first year, with eventgoers having the opportunity to celebrate the gift of life. Matt Walker, the legal guardian of organ donor Cody Richardson, heard about Cody's gift through its recipient, Scott Bennett. Richardson's life was tragically cut short at the age of 25, but Walker decided to donate his organs to ensure his legacy lives on. One organ donor can save 8 lives through organ donation and 75 through tissue donation. The event organizers emphasized the importance of honoring the generosity of organ donors and the impact it has on so many lives. Walker also shared his personal connection to organ donation, as his father had a heart transplant years ago.

Choose to Grow Awards and Recognition Ceremony held in Jackson
SUMMARY: People gathered at the 2024 National Choose to Grow Awards and Recognition celebration at the Western. The event celebrated ambassadors and gyms from across the state in a mentoring program. Awards were given for Ambassadors of the Year, Gyms of the Year, Presidents, and organizations. There are 23 organizations that serve as Villages for mentors, providing them with social skills and tools to navigate the world. They learn about respect, responsibility, dining etiquette, and entrepreneurship. Organizers encourage the community to attend next year's Choose to Grow celebration program.
