Jackson State’s Hudson placed on leave, Hayes-Anthony named temporary president

President Hudson has been placed on administrative effective immediately.

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) has named Dr. Elayne Hayes-Anthony as the temporary acting president of JSU at its meeting held in Jackson Thursday.

Dr. Hayes-Anthony currently serves as Chair and Professor at JSU's Department of Journalism and Studies and has held that position since 2015. She previously worked as a professor of Communications and chair of the Department of Communications at Belhaven from 1998 until 2015.

“We are grateful that Dr. Hayes-Anthony has agreed to serve as Acting President,” Tom Duff, President of the Board of Trustees of the IHL, said. “As an alumnus and long-time administrator and faculty member at the university, she understands the campus, its , its challenges and opportunities.”

Pearl River woman pleads guilty to stabbing tribal member

SUMMARY: Telinah Kowi Tek Farve, a woman from Pearl , pled guilty to assaulting a tribal member with a knife in the Pearl River Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation. Court documents show that in 2023, she stabbed the tribal member, causing serious bodily injury. Farve was indicted by a federal grand jury and pled guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. She is to be on August 6, 2024, facing a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The Choctaw Department and the FBI investigated the case, and a federal district judge will determine her sentence based on sentencing guidelines and other factors.

HOA president speaks after shots fired into Brandon home
