‘It’s been a phenomenal reception’: Hayes Cooper Elementary School operating out of Delta State following explosion
SUMMARY: After an explosion at Hayes Cooper Elementary in Merigold, Mississippi, resulting in two teachers hospitalized, the school had to relocate. The incident occurred last Thursday morning, triggering an emergency evacuation. Delta State University offered its facilities for the displaced students, where classes resumed on Wednesday. The elementary students were warmly greeted by the university's football team and mascots. Dr. Lisa Bramuchi, the district's superintendent, anticipates the school will use Delta State's campus for the rest of the semester, awaiting investigation completion. Initial beliefs suggest a gas leak caused the explosion. The injured teachers are still recovering.

Speaker, lieutenant governor disagree on sending Medicaid expansion to the ballot
SUMMARY: Mississippi lawmakers are conflicted over Medicaid expansion. House Speaker Jason White proposed a ballot referendum, letting voters decide, but the Senate, influenced by Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, rejected the idea. The House previously favored expanding Medicaid to 138% of the federal poverty level without relying on a work requirement waiver from CMS. In contrast, the Senate's plan required a strict work requirement, later adjusting closer to the House's position but still insisting on work criteria. Discussions remain deadlocked, with no bill moving forward without a work requirement. Governor Tate Reeves criticized the referendum approach, highlighting the inability to reestablish a ballot initiative process.
