No Delta State players suspended following brawl at Chowan

SUMMARY: The South Conference (GSC) has decided not to punish Delta a brawl that occurred during a against Chowan. Six players and one non-team individual from Chowan have been suspended, with one player being suspended for the rest of the season. No players from Delta State will face punishment. Delta State's head coach said he did not believe his team started the fight. Chowan will also be required to conduct a game management and security before their next home game. Former Jackson State football player faces up to 20 years for COVID fraud scheme

SUMMARY: Abdul-Malik McClain, a former football player, pleaded guilty to mail fraud for illegally obtaining pandemic unemployment funds. At 24, he faces up to 20 years in prison. McClain and fellow USC football players filed fake claims, fraudulently acquiring over $280,000 in pandemic , part of a scheme seeking more than $1 million in total. They submitted false information to California's Employment Department (EDD), resulting in Bank of America mailing debit cards loaded with funds. McClain controlled some addresses to ensure receipt of these cards, using them for personal expenses and taking cuts from others' fraudulently obtained benefits.

State relinquishing control of Tunica County School District

The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) ended the state of emergency, which began in 2015 due to severe accreditation violations. Dr. Margie Pulley, appointed as interim superintendent, significantly improved the district's performance, with its accountability grade rising from D and F to a B. The district will now transition to a new local school board, effective July 1, which will also appoint a new superintendent. The SBE can intervene in districts with persistent poor performance or severe mismanagement and currently oversees four other districts in Mississippi.
