JPS decides to tear down 3 abandoned schools in the district
SUMMARY: The Jackson Public Schools Board of Trustees approved the demolition of three elementary schools in Jackson due to lack of interest from potential buyers. Dr. Eric Greene cited the poor condition and location of the buildings as reasons for the lack of interest in repurposing them. Residents expressed mixed reactions to the decision, with some disappointed and others believing it was necessary. The school district is considering turning the vacant spaces into green spaces or parks after demolition. JPS plans to seek input from the community on what to do with the empty spaces once demolition is complete, with no scheduled date for demolition yet.
