Former Holmes County employee sentenced to 5 years of house arrest for embezzlement

SUMMARY: Melissa Upchurch, a former employee of Holmes County, has pleaded guilty to embezzling public funds while working as the county's secretary for the and soil conservation district. Between June 2020 and September 2022, Upchurch issued checks to herself and deposited them into her own bank account. in June 2023, she now faces consequences for her actions: five years of house arrest, followed by five years of supervised probation and another five years of unsupervised probation, and must pay restitution and fines. Auditor Shad White commended the investigators and highlighted the recovery of significant taxpayer money.

Bond revoked for Jones County woman accused of having sex with dogs

Gulfport 17-year-old charged after two friends killed during attempted robbery

SUMMARY: Lawrence Blair Corley IV, a 17-year-old from Mississippi's Coast, has been and charged with two counts of capital murder after a fatal shootout during an attempted robbery. Corley, along with Temi Lawal and Lorenzo , allegedly tried to rob a home on May 13. The homeowner shot Lawal and Stennis, leading to their deaths; Lawal died on the scene, and Corley drove Stennis to a hospital where he later died. As Corley was part of the robbery that resulted in these fatalities, he faces capital murder charges, but the homeowner will not be charged for shooting the intruders.
