Evers paved the way for the NAACP by getting members involved and dedicated his life to the fight for civil rights. His dedication and legacy continue to inspire activists today. Evers is the 10th Mississippian to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

It's the highest honor a civilian can receive, along with serving in World War 2, Evers fought tirelessly for equal rights.

Amory aims to build large storm shelter before next severe weather season
