Coast teams nurse sick, endangered sea turtles back to wild to save species
SUMMARY: Dozens of cold-stunned sea turtles arrived on the coast on December 19th and are now making progress under the care of medical teams in Gulfport. Amber Bradley reports on the efforts to nurse back these highly endangered animals, including Kemp's Ridley sea turtles, back to open water. 72 turtles seeking major medical help across different regions are being cared for by medical teams. Veterinarian Sean Perry says that the turtles will stay under care for at least two months before their release, and it is crucial to be stewards to help restore the species. These long-lived animals can live up to 80-90 years.
Nearly six dozen of the world's most endangered sea turtles, the Kemp's ridleys, are undergoing major medical rehabilitation across two agencies in Gulfport.
