City Council Honor JSU Senior
SUMMARY: During the response to a shooting, two stolen vehicles were found near a hospital. The Jackson City Council unanimously passed a resolution to honor Jackson State University student Jaylen Burns, who was shot and killed on campus. Originally, the vote was for an ordinance to place a memorial sign on Valley Street, but council members disagreed on how to honor Burns. However, they agreed that something should be done for the student. Burns' parents stated that he was trying to break up a fight when he was shot. Other ideas to honor him included “Jaylen Burns Day” and building a memorial garden on campus.

The Club, which has grown to over 100 students, teaches the power of giving back and provides a valuable service to the community. The seniors hope to inspire Junior students to get involved in community service as well.
