Former Lawrence County deputy clerk sentenced for embezzlement

SUMMARY: Former Lawrence County Tax Collector's Office deputy clerk, Hollie Summers, pleaded guilty to embezzlement for taking cash payments for vehicle registration and renewals. State Auditor Shad White commended investigators and prosecutors for indicting Summers and vowed to continue recovering taxpayer money. Summers was sentenced to five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with one year of ISP House Arrest and ordered to pay $21,710 in restitution. Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor's office online at www.osa.ms.gov or by calling 1-(800)-321-1275.

Curtis Water Treatment Plant lost power, resulting in low water pressure. The State of Emergency will be reviewed every seven days until the situation improves. The mayor ordered all city agencies and departments to provide assistance and follow emergency protocols. Power at the water treatment plant was restored at 7:00 a.m. after the storm.
