Clinton focuses on retaining police officers
SUMMARY: Mississippi faces law enforcement shortages due to low salaries, with the city of Clinton losing nine officers to surrounding agencies. Mayor Phil Fisher plans to address the issue with budget adjustments, particularly in recruitment and retention efforts. The city previously increased its budget to one million dollars, most of which went toward public safety. However, talks of pay increases within the Capitol Police are now impacting communities throughout the metro. A survey by the Police Executive Research Forum found an 18% increase in the resignation rate for law enforcement agencies between 2020 and 2021 compared to the previous year.
