Lt. governor supports revamping Medicaid
SUMMARY: Mississippi has refused to expand Medicaid coverage to the working poor for over a decade, with Republicans and Governor Tate Reeves arguing it's welfare expansion. But now, Senate and House leaders believe it's time to consider it. The expansion would provide health coverage to 250,000 working poor residents, as long as they are working or trying to get a job and make under $20,000 per year for a household of four. The leaders believe it would be a potential boost for struggling hospitals. If expanded, hospitals would cover some of the state's required 10% match to receive additional federal funding, generating between $500 million to $800 million more dollars for health coverage.
