Rankin County leaders celebrate completion of East Metro Corridor
SUMMARY: The East Metro Corridor, a new roadway connecting Mississippi Highway 25 to U.S. Highway 80, is now open for travelers. The project was funded through a combination of local, state, and federal funding. Brandon Mayor Butch Lee expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project, attributing it to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of many individuals. The new four-lane boulevard provides a safe travel route from Mississippi Highway 25 to Interstate 55 North, fulfilling a longstanding need for a north-south corridor. Despite numerous delays, the project is finally completed and available for public use.
Project officials from the City of Brandon, Flowood, Pearl, Jackson Municipal Airport Authority, Rankin County and state departments attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of the East Metro Corridor project Friday morning.
SUMMARY: In a thrilling game, the Bulldogs finished 4-4 with three homers and 6 RBIs as they won 8-4. The Jackson Prep Patriots are back in the 6A M-A-I-S baseball finals, facing off against Presbyterian Christian School in game one. The game was a pitchers' duel until late, with PCS taking a 2-1 lead in the 7th inning. However, Prep tied it up and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch in a dramatic walk-off fashion. Jackson Prep emerged victorious in game one of the finals, setting the stage for an exciting championship series.

SUMMARY: Southern Miss and Ole Miss faced off in a midweek game, with Ole Miss taking an early lead. Southern Miss fought back, scoring a run in the sixth inning. SUMMARY: Cicadas are making a lot of noise near ITA Agricultural High School in Mississippi, where they are being used as an educational tool by teachers. While some find the noise irritating, teachers are incorporating the cicadas' life cycle into their lessons. However, for residents living near wooded areas, the cicadas' loud singing can be a nuisance. Experts say the cicadas will start to clear out in early June. Despite the annoyance, the cicadas serve as a natural phenomenon that offers educational opportunities and a chance to learn more about their life cycle. Gabe Mayor from WTV A9 News reported on the noisy bugs.
The cicadas are screaming, and though it may be annoying, one school says they are a helpful tool.
