Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency gives public safety tips during possible flash floods
SUMMARY: The Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency has sent out an alert for a flash flood watch until Thursday at 6 p.m. Areas of poor drainage could be impacted, leading to flash flooding in streets, creeks, and rivers. LEMA wants to remind the public to keep safety tips in mind during this rainy weather. A few hours of prolonged rainfall could lead to a lot of public roads getting underwater quickly. Affected counties include Noxubee, Neshoba, Kemper, Scott, Newton, and Lauderdale. The agency advises not to drown and be cautious of the potential flash flooding.

Although hot, drier air from the North will make it less humid. Similar weather will persist over the weekend, with highs in the lower 90s on Saturday and mid-90s on Sunday. Clouds will increase late Sunday ahead of possible rain on Monday, as winds shift to bring more Gulf moisture. A weaker cold front will bring rain and cooler temps, dropping to the mid-80s by Tuesday. Isolated showers may continue into midweek, with upper 80s expected by Thursday.

Repairs are underway for the sinkhole on 18th Ave.
SUMMARY: The Public Works Department has been working for several days to remove water and debris from a collapsed pipe. David Hodge, the Director of Public Works, states that the pipe collapsed due to its age and material, and repairs are expected to be completed by Monday, June 17th. Following the repair, the city plans to replace the entire 24-inch concrete sewer line, which had deteriorated over time due to sewer gases. Businesses on 18th Avenue remain open and accessible via alternate routes during this period.

Jones County searching for woman who walked away from early-morning crash site
SUMMARY: The Jones County Sheriff's Department is seeking assistance in locating 32-year-old Samantha Elizabeth McGaan, who may be injured after a crash around 1:00 a.m. today on Victory Road near Highway 184. McGaan reportedly hit a power pole and left the scene. Security camera footage shows her wearing a lime green shirt, black and white shorts, and a hoodie. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the Sheriff's Department or Jones County Crime Stoppers.
