Mississippi governor announces Medicaid reimbursement reforms

SUMMARY: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has announced a of reimbursement reforms estimated to generate around $700 million for hospitals across the . The reforms include the Mississippi Hospital Access Program (MHAP), which will direct payments to hospitals serving Medicaid , and supplemental Medicaid base payment rates for hospitals. The non-federal share of the payments will be financed through hospital assessments. Reeves also called for prior authorization reform and announced a working group on issues to discuss further reforms. Mississippi is facing a crisis with a shortage of OB-GYNs and a high infant mortality rate.
